The Darkness Within
Alone within a small dark room Heart racing from impending doom Just beyond I see a light I stumble closer to see this sight A single lightbulb overhead Reveals a creature sleeping in its bed The features of it, no one knows Showing only its eyes, fingers, and toes The rest is covered by a long black cloak Dark enough to make my soul choke Its fingers were long and thin Like icicles piercing under my skin Its toes were filth and stench Causing my eyes to water and my teeth to clench Its eyes pierced into my heart With such a great evil as to tear the world apart This creature also wore a mask Hiding evil shrewd and devilish task This mask had fangs white as snow What place this mask came from, I do not want to know... As I drew closer to this being The question grew bigger as to what I was seeing The beast did not move; did not stir I reached for its mask, my intentions unsure Reaching for what lay concealed So that its true identity could be revealed I removed the mask, low and behold What I witnessed made my veins run cold Lying underneath the mask's place Was a reflected image of my own face The creature's eyes burst open Its razor glare was scoping It cracked a smile, the light went out My mind raced with fear and doubt I lied alone within the dark Enveloped by everything black and stark What just happened? What did I see? Was the face behind the monster actually me? It was then I realized... That I had stared into my own eyes For I was the monster, and he was me He was my inner darkness for me to see Alone within this silent room Heart racing from impending doom No looking foreword, no looking back The darkness is out and is on the attack
