What I Would Like
I would like to lie in the sun With you again, the air, the sky Above us, the pine cones watching Our eyes and arms, the wind bringing Our names. I would like to see the sun on your face, A face in the light; the morning sun, A smile that wakes mine, see what you’ve done? The sea’s catch in full, a meadow full in flowers, Their colors turn me from myself, to something Else. There you are, a wind that only warms, The slow falling of a leaf, it falls on my face And I can trace its lips, like yours, with my lips, Your face in a light that tips me from my perch. The pine cones know, they heard me say, They know and threaten to say- The sun forms in rays of a thousand stars, A day that ribbons light on your eyes And arms. I would like to lie in the sun With you again, and have the wind Serenade our names, across the meadow.
