The Jungle Myth
A green river snakes its way across a jungle Alive with sounds from the Earth's orchestra Of watchful jaguars and dainty Yucatan squirrels Enjoying a tête-à-tête between leafy branches A green jay breaks the harmony with a series of "shek, shek, shek" notes calling out to the ancient Maya history Right beyond the trees’ canopies I see a Mayan temple That held its ground defying time That stood against an invisible eraser Slowly drifting down the river of myths on a boat Listening to the devilish howls of black howlers Sharing stories of a thousand warriors with haunted quotes Mayan royals once stood above the temple As warriors below raised their atlatl with war cries I can feel the quiet jungle attentively listens to the drums Of ethos rising in the war-inflicted zone From blood rituals to dominating power Merciless spearheads of volcanic glass killing royal bloodlines The winds of change transformed all into bloodthirsty fighters What was once a beautiful civilization that outshines Now disappears into the beautiful carvings of its designs A Collaborated Poem with Angeline Haikutwinkle Copyright © 2016 June 9th Written in two-form style, unrhymed quatrain and terza rima.
