Water Babies
“Water Babies” Warmth rolls over me like liquid velvet. My moves are fluid and sure. I have learned to manipulate the currents – A twist here, a turn there, when I feel the need to move ahead. The Sea is my protector, my faithful confidante, My friend – who gives me life and a watery bed. She holds me in her hand – My destiny at her frivolous whim, Should she decide to give me up. I break the surface often – Out of idle curiosity, Out of a need to reinforce the belief That I am one of the lucky ones – One of those who calls the Sea my home. I find the safety I seek in her arms, Solace from those who have no choice, From those who must dwell above the rim, There, in sadness, on the face of the Land. For, they know not the depths, Nor the challenge to ride the waves, Or the tender kiss of morning light from an ocean’s dawn. I have tasted the life of the Sea; I have rolled her wealth across my tongue And savored the richness of her bounty. I am her child, her follower, Her devoted Disciple of Light. I am the Spirit of the Water, Ardent companion to all who know me.
