Sands of a Distant Shore
As a young man, I longed for passion in life setting my sails, spent far from home seeking out exotic lands stirring oceans into a frenzied foam. Oh, to breathe the scent of new perfumes to taste kaffir upon my tongue to dust the pages of books unread bringing notes of life to songs unsung. The thrill of skimming fresh new waves riding high on tips of tides shading eager eyes to see strange new worlds the sea divides. What could lie on distant coasts straying from familiar lands drifting off the paradise to turquoise waters and beige white sands? So I hoisted sails and flouted the wind thumbed my nose with pride and haught captains would soon bow down to me aw- such a fool, such reckless thought A dreadful storm soon rends my dream as rain pelts down in a violent rage wind whips the waters into a shattered mirror unconcerned with innocence of age. And I'm snapped up into a battle's blaze a vagabond sent to a distant shore the murky depths smirk up at me I know not where to set my moor. Alas! The sun bursts through a purple sky and I, the helmsman of ship's hull learn to wane upon the crests then ebb back with moon's pull. Dare I say, don't banish dreams though fingers point and stones are cast. Live, explore, teach and learn, go ahead and raise that mast. But as bold new youth sail away captains of mystic lands to roam my skin is now leathered and brown so I'll sip my tea and browse books at home.
