Johnny Sparrow
Johnny Sparrow Johnny Sparrow, laid to rest, Raven sits on his oaken chest, In the tower by bed of straw Smoking musket on the floor. Johnny Sparrow, once a lord, With velvet tunic, silver sword, Heart broken by unfaithful wife Took his musket, took her life. Johnny Sparrow, wife was smitten By love poems sweetly written, His amorous words were enough For her to pledge unrequited love. Johnny Sparrow, the poet knew, Once a friend, he had but few, Frequented taverns, porters sunk Until them both were rolling drunk. Johnny Sparrow and his wife to be Did both admire his poetry, Of infidelity, there was no mention, None knew then of his intention. Johnny Sparrow, when was wed Found love poems in his bed, All along she had been untrue, And Johnny Sparrow never knew. Johnny Sparrow, in rage did plot, Loaded his musket with lead shot, Knowing love could not be saved Sent wife and poet to their graves, Johnny Sparrow, laid to rest, Raven sits on his oaken chest, Pecking a poem into the grain "Johnny Sparrow died insane"
