I Want To Believe
A child with twisted limbs and a smile displays a faith that tears me apart. For though every day is a trial, he praises God with all of his heart. And I want to believe. A wino recites the book of God, proclaiming its message has saved him. Proving faith roots in the poorest sod under God's light, no matter how dim. And I want to believe. A child of poverty learns to steal, settling fights with a knife or a gun. And yet, his mom prays before each meal, thanking God for the gift of her son. And I want to believe. I see how the downtrodden and poor are desperately struggling to cope. But, despite fate closing every door, unwavering faith fills them with hope. And I want to believe. Behind all the rhetoric, I find, there's a fundamental need for good. And in my soul and subconscious mind, I wish to be loved and understood. And I want to believe. (Rhyme) 10/14/2015
