Recurring Nightmare
Poet: Ken Jordan Story: Recurring Nightmare Edited by: Sparkle Jordan written: July/2015 A long time ago, an old medicine woman said to me: "Young man, "you run'n from yo self - If you don't turn around, and face yo demons, you'll continue to have "Hell Hounds," on yo trail." As it turned out, the old medicine woman, was right on point. Recently, I had this recurring dream. that would come to me every night, like a thief, and robbed me of my sleep. Soon, I came to realize that this wasn't just a dream, it was a recurring nightmare. Envision yourself alone on the shores of a (night) dark ocean. The wind is strong, and white cap waves, are crashing against shore rocks; sounding like a lion's roar - Now imagine, walking through dense fog, that hovers the beach, with only the moon light to guide your way. It's frightening! Through the fog, a big round white house, stilted in the ocean appears. It has windows, and doors, all around the house. It beckons you to come inside, you have no choice. An uncontrollable force sucks you in, but, before entering, a voice from the sea whispers: "If you see an old woman dressed in all white, you better run to find the right door to escape." So, in my dream, I walked around inside this house, quietly. Low in behold, the old woman was standing silently, like a ghost in front of me. Before I began to run, my body froze in her vacant stare. She begin to chase me screaming, "You can't get away!" Well....I did manage to escape, (sort of), only for a brief moment. The old woman, leaped outside the round house, and turned into the most vicious dog, that I had ever seen in my life. It looked like a wolf, with green eyes, and had razor sharp teeth. The beast chased me to a sea inlet, and I had no place to run. This whole nightmarish scene took place in my dreams every night, until, I made the choice, to stop running. Somewhere inside of me, I remembered the words of the old medicine woman: "Young man, you run'n from yo self - If you don't turn around, and face yo demons, you'll continue to have, "Hell Hounds," on yo trail." When I turned around at that sea inlet, to face my fears, the beast turned back into the old woman dressed in white, and ran back to the round house, stilted in the ocean. My bravery, told me that, when you stop run'n from your issues, and face them, it's not as bad as it seems. It freed me of all my negative influence's, (Fear, Blame, shame, and guilt). At that very instance, I received a new lease on life. No more running from myself, I changed for the best that anyone could be. My faith is strong in the Most High. Thank you Father, for giving me the courage and strength to over come my fears - Also, I owe gratitude to the old Medicine Woman, she's an angel with supreme wisdom, that helped to save my life.
