Kilimanjaro's Echo
Drum rolling down Africa's paradigm A symphony begins at the edge of a cliff To kiss the feet of Mount Kilimanjaro To meet defeat into a crashing concerto... Bursting into life echoes that sing wall to wall The mighty mountain unmoved still...standing tall Ancient, ever rising facing her uncertain future Of tributaries that are now free to overrun Waves carry them on prevailing winds And leave her land drained of their young minds Of their love, of their fleeting feet like gazelle’s Of their laughter, their boisterous chanter like angels The mountain recalls the grasp of their hands As they hugged her bosom to the summit The sound of their footsteps...as they marched to the top And their jubilation on her crown shared freely Her profound sigh can be seen rolling down her face Covering the land below in a gloomy mist Her disenchantment visible as she boils boulders Her once cool head losing control - not lactating She cannot to be moved...they’re spoiled and lost They’ll return overseas to find her still proud and stern Her heartache will destroy her like an earthquake And she will erode into the ocean trying to find them Her dormant volcano will rumble into a chorus And the drum roll that gave birth to their rhythm Will dissipate her melody into a silent grave Kilimanjaro - Africa's breast - where flows your milk?
