An Ode To the Road
I dream about turning the key and drive until I'm gone. And leave behind what cannot wait, you know like mowing the lawn. But my old car cannot be trusted to take me very far. So I am left to fantasize as I hang out at the bar. I think that I would drive out west like pioneers once did. I certainly imagine things have changed since Ia's a kid. But it would be so nice to go and find out for myself. Instead of being stuck here living life up on this shelf. Traveling within the mind is as safe as it can get. The pavement's always perfect, never oily, slick or wet. And if you want to stop and pee, it's only twenty feet. But food at this bar's not so good if you decide to eat. Well it's time for me to go and be glad that I'm home. Until the road calls me again and makes me want to roam. If and when I ever go, I'll send you a postcard. Until that time you'll find me just outside tending the yard.
