Ageism
Ageism Summer is always hot in the valley the sea breeze does not reach here. I have a fan blowing shifting the air giving the impression of cooling the air. By all means we are prosperous people we do have an air condition, bought before the price of electricity went through the roof. We tell ourselves that heat is good for our arthritis when driving and arriving across the road I’m able to turn my head and see what coming, in winters I do that by feeling of danger or ease. So many names of soft drinks in the summer they all tell us they are full of vitamins added and sugar. I read the job section in the paper, many jobs going I can get well paid and I would not have to worry about electricity bills and other grating bills. I do many things if only in my mind, I have written to seek a job, there has been interests but, when I fill in the form about my age I hear no more. Once I got a job as a supply officer on a ship, it didn’t last when it was discovered I wore a false moustache, a wig and was telling lies about my age. And I was helped down the steep gangway her captain said: I would have hired you if you had been 30 years younger it is not company policy to hire anyone over eighty.
