The Pigeon Who Flew the Coop
Snuck out of the house to see my boyfriend that night. Neighborhood dogs charged barking. Instilling such a fright. Stepped into a mud puddle. My foot became stuck. His cousins took up what little room there would have been for me in the truck. Hoping my parents slept through the tattle tale of a squeaky gate. Packed like sardines we made the great escape. We had a long drive until we were to reach his cousins' house. They looked a bit dirty. I hoped not to see a mouse. Lit up some cigarettes noting my freedom as a miracle. We pulled into the drive. Emptying out of the vehicle. At that point in my life the puppet strings I wanted to sever. My parents were strict. Which only made me clever. Wanting some alone time, my boyfriend and I headed indoors. Like the calm in the eye of a hurricane I had no idea what more was in store. Like a scene from Joe's Apartment there were roaches everywhere. Stood there in shock thinking "Why would my love bring me here?" My eyes opened wide. My face with a look of disdain. I told him "Take me home now and never ask me to do this again!" May 15, 2015
