Treeless Avenue
So long old mountain You are in the rear view mirror of my forgotten For so long my foundation, My future determination refuses to look back At your crumbling avalanche I’m now fatigued Your roots are my withered memory And your shelter is fatigued Retired for another age in history Your grey once so reassuring like a silver lining So peculiar in your deforming Into this calming treeless avenue To the only father figure I ever knew The sun will dry my bareback Into a tough bark The moon will pull my tired mind in With the tide every night With each nightmare it brings True, I will miss your cold pose the most The years have made you such a warm host Smart, How you wear your icecap in summer And how you wear that blanket of cloud Throughout the winter when I shiver But just before reaching the summit, I always seemed to stop Your imposing figure made it harder to climb to the top I have relished this motivation with a cherished devotion At the thought of conquering you At the unnatural disturbances this may do So keep your highest pick I shall now rest easy beneath your feet And gracefully accept my defeat
