I Thirst
On my personal cross of pain I hang Suspended between earth and sky Reality and make believe There I hang There I cry I thirst I thirst For pure love I thirst For lasting passion I thirst for joy of contentment I thirst I thirst There at the foot of my cross they watch those who feel my tears, my friends those who show their true faces, my foes those who are too afraid to reach out, my acquaintances those who wait for the end, my family I thirst I’m dying of thrist There you are the one who put me on this cross the one who drove in the nails of betrayal who crowned me with thorns instead of kisses There you are I look down at you I thirst and you press to my lips what cannot satisfy vinegar instead of water I let it run out of my lips as I turn my head and cry at this final insult I thirst I thirst and you h e a r a death sigh escaping from parched and cracked lips as my heart breaks and the earth quakes you take in cooling sips as the blood d r i p s angels c r y watching me D I E O F T H R I S T Eileen Manassian Inspired by Emile Pinet’s Poem: Unbearable Thirst PS...I do not wish to offend. I hope this is not considered sacrilegious. I am in no way diminishing Christ's sacrifice on our behalf. He died of a broken heart...a heart that was filled with love...He died from an overabundance of love for those who did not love Him. We die from a lack of love from those who should love us. It's sad.
