An Odd Old Man
He was an odd old man of 43 Looking older and odder than should be Livin’ alone up on the hill Nothin’ but chickens for company He was living off the grid Had a big log cabin on the property But he chose to live in tin Said he built the cabin for a woman he once loved Since she left it was the place he couldn’t stand to be in On the land he had a pristine pond But he used a rusty shower head at the rear of the trailer When I came he always told of me that he was fond Once when I visited he let me shoot his guns And we laughed and told bad jokes all afternoon He loved his chickens and spending time with friends And he was often heard howling at his moon I’d see him around town driving a broke down lookin’ truck The kind where the doors could fall right off He’d wave and whistle to ya and yell Good Luck! But the people in town they would just scoff Nice old man, kinda lonely I would guess Staring at that big log cabin every night Feel sorta bad for him, I must confess He was an odd old man of 43
