The Dust Always Settles
Your love is like a whirlwind – empty in the center and just as shortly lived You tried to seduce me with your horn -but I was never a fan of bad jazz Impress me with your fancy sports car- but you can’t afford the payments Spend money like you’re generous - but you don’t repay your debts You pretend you care about foster kids- but I know to you they have a price You claim to be a painter- but your paintings have never been seen You’re a retired martial artist –who seems to have misplaced his belt You profess to know how others should live-but you seldom leave your kingdom You’re like those unread books on your finely manicured bookcase Just for show And just like the books The dust always settles when you sit too long Why did it take so long for me to see that you weren’t who you claimed to be? In a well-groomed house-my mortgage overdue With expensive art hung -there was no artist in me Where shopping for clothes and shoes I tried to fill the hole Lending money in exchange for love as if I had the tree Passing judgment over him without ever looking at me Why did it take so long for me to see? I was not who I claimed to be Like those unread books on my finely manicured bookcase Just for show And just like the books The dust always settles when I sit too long
