A Thankless Job
If you care to sing this one to the tune, 'Ghost Riders in the Sky" it works well. An Outlaw Gang, road into town As evil as could be Robbed raped and pillaged Everything that they could see No one could stand before them As the outlaws had their way 'Cause in a solemn grave The sheriff laid that day A young boy started thinking There was something he could do He jumped upon a horse And then rode out to the Sioux The Chief possessed a magic That no white man's ever seen When he started dancing He began to sing The ground started shaking Then a headstone split in two A creature crawled, up from the earth And stood before the Sioux The Chief then mumbled words In a language long since dead But it seemed, the creature Understood the words he said With thunder and lightening The rain came pouring down Just about the time The creature reached the town With clothes all torn and tattered Flesh hanging from his bones The town folk all were hiding As he stood there all alone The Outlaw gang, walked up to him And pointed every gun They loaded all there bullets And fired everyone A hundred rounds maybe more Tore through the creatures chest But he kept standing there Tin star pinned on his chest With eyes like demon fire a groan slipped through his lips Lightening struck his six guns as he snatched them from his hips Thunder from his pistols made A hellish hollow sound And in a flash They laid dead upon the ground Now all of the town folk Walked out into the street They saw it was their Sheriff Though he'd been dead for weeks No one thought to thank him For he made a hero's stand Except for the young boy That shook him by the hand
