The Pleiades
They call you the seven sisters of the night sky. In the constellation Taurus, we can see you up high. For countless centuries before recorded time, your light has appeared in the sky so sublime. Each one of you is many light years away. Because of this, we don’t see you in the day. Once our sun is shining on the other side of the world, all the stars come out like a giant flag unfurled. You are seven stars of the brightest kind. That’s what makes all of you rather easy to find. Sometimes, one of the sun’s planets can be found nearby. That’s because Taurus is one of the zodiac groups in the sky. Like the other stars, you are symbols of promise and hope. All of you are bright enough to be seen without a telescope. Out of billions of points of light, you are a select few. Many millennia will pass before your end is due. Robert Pettit For Nette Onclaud’s “Night Sky” contest March 26, 2014
