Defeated
Love has brought me streams of sorrows It has kissed my heart with tears and pain Life seems plagued with darker tomorrows When everything of life and love is vain. The distant skies comes crashing down The dark numbing silence invades me As sad the hues, from sacred hills crown My head with a forlorn memory. I toiled to draw comfort by the stream That my days somehow may turn to peace But hope does trap my thoughts in a dream That maybe your love had never ceased. I dread the days when smiles had vanished When loneliness sung, its songs of despair Your ways are cruel, my soul is thus tarnished For loving you so much, my darling so dear. Tender I lay in fields of hopelessness And trained my tearful sorrows to obey Though blindly I crawl in love's emptiness In this gloom, I see the light of day.
