The Man Who Knew Everything
Theme: Unearthing Truths - CAP Seminar 2013 Every lie, every mumble Every thought that "never" was He could see them, see them all And hear them in his ear rasping He was the man who knew everything I know what I want And I know what I have Why can't these other thoughts Be put to bed? He caught snatches and whispers Of closely guarded machinations Like the guy who plotted against his drunk wife The man left him to it, amidst self-protestations You're the man who knows everything And yet you do nothing On and on the river flowed Guilt-tripping whispers brought him to his knees No more! No more! He cried in his sleep The next time he saw what they had in their minds He wouldn't stand by - he'd do more than lie! He would be more than that - he'd be the first To stand by the truth and have it unearthed Later, as he ran away, face covered in tears He realised men told lies others wanted to hear He was the man who knew everything But said nothing But did nothing This man who knew everything
