Broken Promises
Broken Promises They say that a promise is A comfort to a fool. To a child a broken promise is the biggest disappointment they will ever experience so do not make promises to them that you don't intend to keep. To a lover a broken promise is a trust gone astray! To a mother from a child- its many nights without sleep. From a nation to its people- Another Political trick. To a soldier longing for home It's his life being spent. But that promise you made between yourself and your creator - Seems be the hardest one to keep. When promises made too self are broken you've dug a hole too deep. Those are the worse of days- You have tuned God's channels out . You think that you are in control- And soon realize you're not. Yet, promises made daily ‘’to self’’ are USUALLY FIRST- then -quickly forgotten. THESE Are the only promises that could have saved your life. If only your promises to self you were determined to keep. Maybe THEN I WOULD TRUST THE PROMISES MADE TO ME. Please do not comfort me with your empty words, When it's only your self you want to serve. Why, make a fool of me, yourself- and everyone else? PLEDGING obligations that you cannot meet. You had no intentions of pleasing anyone but yourself. Another broken promise - You never got around to. Another poem written- in shades of blue. Another night without sleep. Another promise, you failed to keep. Copyright © Vicki Acquah | Year Posted 2013
