Memories Beyond the Door
She thought she had thrown away the key That locked the door to those memories But that door cannot be secured with locks And it sprang open again like Pandora ’s Box Hands touching her private places Contempt and disgust on familiar faces Pain and heartbreak she tried to shut out Inside her head started again to shout From people she should expect caring and love Into a harsh world they violently shoved Abuse and torment was her reality So she tried to escape through fantasy Finally rescued by her adult age And the tormenters six feet under a grave She hoped to lock the memories away in her mind But to her little girl nightmares she cannot turn blind The door she tries to keep locked forever She will have to go inside to help her get better She just needs to find the courage and strength To take the journey to that ultimate length What lies behind her memory door Are not things that she should feel guilty for The key to good health is not locking them in But releasing them forever to let the healing begin Written and posted 5-1-13. I just saw that the rules limit to 20 lines - I could possibly change this to be 20 lines, but am leaving it as is for now. If it does not qualify - I understand.
