Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil
The tears have stopped flowing now As I buried him deeply in the garden Amongst the lilacs and jasmine trees Where he could breathe their delicious scent And their petals could softly caress his skin The cinder blocks of disappointment Mark his eternally silent grave Cold and ascetic against the rich foliage As if I wished for him to stand out against such beauty Yet still be touched by it, an ever present memorial For inside the beautiful garden of my mind Where he had once walked so freely Trampling wildly with no concern for the consequences Not caring if anything would ever grow there again So I entombed him there as a reminder, of all that once was His memory serving to show me what was savagely taken Used and abused and then thrown to the wind Emotions laid waste, gnawing at the beauty Inciting the madness of good and evil As they battle endlessly within this garden Memories of love replaced by those of hate, Churning inside of me, the good urging me to let go The evil relentlessly pursuing my ire Like a warm coat evil protects from the misery While the good encourages the self incrimination And so it is midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil My demons restlessly guide my steps With now silent tears that water my imagination And cement my resolve with a sense of resilience For after this night I will cry no more...
