Judas the Betrayer
Judas the Betrayer 1 It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. 2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;” John 13:1-3 NIV Judas, the Betrayer of the Lamb of God Sat at the table of the Passover. He ate the bread and drank the win, Feigning a friendship coins to barter. He celebrated the Passover And pretended to be one of Christ’s closest friends, But his heart was on Satan’s battleground; This messenger, the prince of darkness sends. The Passover ordinance did not convict And soften Judas’ heart. He’d rejected the Holy Spirit’s calls; No deep love for Christ to impart. His selfish pride lay on an earthly kingdom, Where recognition he thought he’d gain. So he sold his hope of salvation, And thirty pieces of silver down the drain! Although Judas partook of the bread and the wine, Symbolizing Christ’s broken body and spilled blood, He cherished not the Savior’s heart But self-love became his cherished flood. Convicted by the enemy To betray his so-called friend, He gave his heart to Satan, Not to Christ, his heart did lend. Judas found his partnership In the temple priests, Christ’s foe. He led them to his Master— To Gethsemane they did go. Judas the Betrayer Kissed Christ on the cheek. A lowly act of betrayal For Christ’s enemies he did seek!
