The Kings Tale
There once was a king who ruled the land and you could tell by the crown he wore, And if you ever questioned his word he’d tell you that’s what his crown was for. Because the word of a king must be absolute and free of second guessing, To rule over his people any other way would just become too depressing. And so the king sat on his throne thinking up his next decree, Wondering how he’ll pay for the staff let alone his wife’s spending spree. Heavy is the head that wears the crown especially when it’s big and round, If only he had King Midas’s touch then his finances would become unbound. He’d have to think a while on that because he knew he’d never stop, He’d probably change the princesses to gold and his wife would still continue to shop. All he ever wanted was to be called a king that was good, But the trip to that place carried a cost and by him that was understood. He called for his pipe and he called for his bowl and he called for a guy named Keith, Keith was a conjurer and he granted the wish but he did so while clenching his teeth. Because Keith was sure that what was going to happen wouldn’t be a very good thing, But what can you do when you earn your living working for the King? So they all stood back to watch the disaster that was certain to happen next, And sure enough he turned everything to gold leaving the Queen perplexed. The food, the cat and the dog, the kids and entire castle staff, The knight, the lady and all of the horses had all fallen to this gaffe. The Queen bade Keith to change things back and promised to never charge on her card, And King Eric preferred to have it this way because a throne turned to gold was too hard.
