The Farmer
Among the trees and flowers adorned Two hundred hence this world was born As three structures were built on high These quilted years crept slowly by No simple thoughts of future's past As the farmer struck his iron cast The horses kept their hills four to ten Which all that ever should have been But a scorched past had hid amongst his kin His five thousand acres were down to ten In halls of wood now plastics resided Circles of time that only oceans confided Ten million wheels now encased the farm Where once sat the fields and barn The farmer's wife sat amazed at this How iron and steel now replaced what's his As the weeping wife sat next to his bed The farmer's voice crept into her head Fly above what now is dear Hold the shell up to your ear Find the path that sends you back Before our mothers' Jill and Jack At the highest point stolen by the sky Climb higher and higher and wave goodbye On wings of paradise tempered but taught Fade out like the star that we once sought
