Spittin Out the Seeds
Spittin Out The Seeds Back when I was just a boy, in the summer stores were sellin Whole ones, halfs and quarters of ice cold watermelon My mom would sometimes bring one home and cut off some slices Send us out on the back steps, leave us to our devices I’d bite into the sweet, cold flesh, juice dripping on my shirt While capturing the melon seeds, spittin them in the dirt Spitten out the seeds you see, was really half the fun To see how far we could make them fly, until the treat was done Oh, those were the good years, too bad they long have past Seems like all the simple things never seem to last The things we liked to do back then are different than today The ice cold watermelon has long since gone away But life has object lessons, if attention we will pay That even the most simple things stay with us yet today Each time I hear from people who are quick to list my needs I simply save the good stuff, while spittin out the seeds
