Waiting For Her Boy
I'm an old woman in a red coat standing at the head of the ramp people streaming up from the gates I'm the Mom waiting for her boy coming home spring break Its like when you have a fever that unquenchable thirst I know where to stand to see the long view of the corridor and the short view drops to baggage claim - I stand with the limo drivers scanning thirsty for a sight can I spot him in the crowd I forgot to ask are you wearing a hat what color sweatshirt I scan and scan but I can't...pick him out. Planes take so long to unload Whoa there he is tall smiling cut, as they say confident so changed even since Christmas his grin the same we both get teary and hang on we can't stop hugging this is better not the drama of Christmas dragging us under we're just plain happy to see each other we trip telling stories he's tired, he wants his dogs of course they go crazy when they see him we ease inside I start dinner and he's gone out driving without a word I hear the music his mother's son
