Monsters
You think I’m so innocent The sheltered one you call me If only, if only you knew All the horrible things I’ve done The things I’ve seen The ones I’ve hurt The ones that have hurt me. Bruises cover my heart And my blood is laced with skepticism My soul wallows in the mud that covers my past, Like a toddler, helpless, homeless, and someday, Lifeless. All of the people, the monsters that Follow me out of my nightmares And into the street Blurring the lines between there And here Until they are one in the same And my life is The nightmare. Memories haunt my dreams Like monsters in the closet Or ghosts at the foot of my bed Staring at me, waiting for sleep So out of spite, I do not sleep. It’s the things, the horrors, the life-shattering Moments. You think me innocent Fine, but I think you ignorant. You don’t know me, because if you did You would know That it is I, I am the monster. How do you feel about that?
