Some Men With Broken Hearts
Some men with broken hearts faint To never trust nor hope still I, a withered plant, found life Again after drought Parched through howling dust of years The land disfigured my root I bore but sparse, rough, gnarled fruits Borne away in chains Of chest crackling winds. What dew Was there was only mercy Enough for groaning branches Of a tree to wait The overhanging clouds death Its white demure face blackened With pregnant cells for joy Faith lives for the rain Mere desire becomes dust soon In the lynching rays of sun But true love nothing ruins, time Docks hearts where they pine So cloud and ship yet you come Wet with cargoes of my dream Bringing cargoes fresh of life Loving me again Some men with broken hearts faint Yet true love in all abuse Hopes and never dies. Lord, teach All men to believe
