In a Rush To Hide the Truth
I really wish I remembered what I told you the other day When you asked me where I was and why I didn’t call? I rushed to hide the truth and I forgot where I put it away. As I stand here—sweating, I feel you sensing my delay To answer uncomplicated questions I should recall. I really wish I remembered what I told you the other day Since, my deceit could destroy the perfect picture I portray, Of a good and honest man who would never let trickery befall So, I rushed to hide the truth and forgot where I put it away. Maybe, I could tell you I left the answer with my attaché Or, maybe I could just grunt and grab my chest and fall? I really wish I remembered what I told you the other day! Sense and reason screamed at my conscience not to betray, But, I did it anyway; it was just so small, what could be the downfall? Then, I rushed to hide the truth and I forgot where I put it away Because, I thought if I told you the truth you wouldn’t stay, And since I’m so selfish—I hope I told you I was at the mall… I really wish I remembered what I told you the other day; But, I rushed to hide the truth and I forgot where I put it away.
