Sometimes the System Fails
Fifty years was longer than the life left to be spun But a life sentence was rendered when the evil deed was done Not his, but the other one, the deed that left his girl In a darkened, horrified, messed up, frightened kind of world. They didn’t have evidence that the judge would let in court But the story, which he knew in full, left with him no doubt The rapist stood beside his suits twisting round the truth Making it sound as if his girl was a wild woman on the loose. He couldn’t leave it up to the law who failed two times before Two other victims with similar stories that both of them swore While he smiled and licked his lips mocking the justice system This father would make sure his daughter was the last victim. Just as the judge was saying, “Let him go, they have no proof” The man with saddened eyes pointed the gun at this creep Before the guards could respond to the shots, five bullets in him did seep. The father laid down his gun and placed his hands upon his head Pleased to spend his life in prison knowing this monster at last was dead. The father was sent to a prison cell The daughter’s mental health, they could not tell The rapist was burning down in hell And Lady Liberty could only yell A silent yell – and then repeat the tale Sometimes, the system fails.
