On each is etched the honored name for all eternity, Of a gallant patriot belonging to a very special fraternity. Too many stones are etched, "Known But To God Alone." 'Tis sad that the names of those heroes will ne'er be known. Valiant troops lie asleep who died to ensure freedom's flame, And sadly, sadly, we don't even know their name! They sacrificed all upon the field of strife and were torn asunder. Grieving families gaze upon the stone and will ever wonder, "Could that be my son, my brother, my daddy sleeping there?" Alas, they'll never know, adding to their despair. "Taps" echoes across the rolling plain at the close of day, To honor those who rest 'neath that hallowed clay. They'll stand smart and tall when mustered for that last patrol. Each will proudly answer "Here!" for that final call of the roll! When Gabriel sounds the trumpet and they shed their funereal gown, God will embrace each saying, "Soldier, you served Me with renown!"
