Classic Opening Lines
Ah! The anticipation after reading a book's opening line! 'Tis akin to savoring the taste of a splendid vintage wine! From fairy tales, mysteries or the historian's tome profound, Classic opening lines throughout the ages in books abound! "It was a dark and stormy night...", the mystery writer penned. You can't put the book down wondering how it will end. What an intriguing, tangled web the cunning author has spun. Will it be the maid or the butler who shot the boss with a gun? "Once upon a time...", begins the fairy tale daddy read, As he tucked curly-heads Leanna and Leslie in their bed. They'll dream of castles, kings and friendly bears, After they've snuggled in the bed and said their prayers! "In the beginning, God...", now that'll grab your attention! Tho' the Greatest Book is at times beyond our comprehension, 'Tis rife with tales of love, mystery and war but well worth reading. But more than that, it provides solid guidance for succeeding! "He was the meanest hombre in the west...", begins a western tale. Thus the saga of a sheriff and desperado along the outlaw trail. Ah! The anticipation after reading a book's opening line! 'Tis akin to savoring the taste of a splendid vintage wine! Robert L. Hinshaw, CMSgt, USAF, Retired (© All Rights Reserved)
