New Year, Past Years
Dawn, looking as blush as twilight, Where the silhouette of trees still lingers And envelopes me— Transporting me to my world of yesterday. I can still hear my children’s laughter; Watch them play and dance To their sweet singing tunes. How quiet the morning is now That they are grown and gone. As I look out toward the grey sea And Diamond Head I can see their faces in the rising sun. © Connie Marcum Wong Note: I didn't know what to expect when I posted this first poem at Poetry Soup. I certainly did not expect the warm welcome I received. I immediately felt accepted as a fellow poet by the members through their comments. I was encouraged to join by Andrea Dietrich who assured me I would like it here. She was right and I am grateful that she introduced me to this magical place where the expression of poetry is so honored. This poem became featured that same month, to my delight, and I met many new friends through their comments because of that. I also entered this poem in a contest and was given an honorable mention. It took me a while to learn to navigate this site and learn the rules of entering contests and how everything works, but soon I was comfortable here and welcoming others. What a blessing it is to share poetry with other poets who appreciate poetry as much as I do. For Beginnings Matter Contest Sponsor Richard Lamoureux
