Sobriety
For years that is all he knew, his world was in a fog Night after night, it was the same old song Heavily clouded skies would never go away Stumbling home, have to sleep with the dog Just knowing, "They have it all wrong" He knew that he would show them someday Then every morning, took five hands to hold his coffee He knew he was awake, his world began to shake His other mind told him that he had done it again Looked in the mirror, "My God, this can't be me" "I can beat this thing, piece of cake" "Got to hurry, the liquor store opens at ten" First day out of rehab, "Home, are you sure this is the right address" The yesterdays, did not even know how he got there Remembering when he was drinking, that was when he could really drive Now seeing the results, "Good God, what a mess" Know he only got out of there by a prayer Then his inner voice told him, "Damn wonder you are still alive" Sleeping with his new mate, that he had known most of his life The monsters are dead, now dreams instead of nightmares No more insanity, now he can face reality Rolled over in bed, smiled and kissed his new wife They have all been answered, all of his prayers Thanks you God, for this sobriety
