Donkey Mumma Seh
Donkey mumma seh A wha mi going duh Good Christmus mawning to yuh Little lamb nuh die more, nuh die no more Good Christmus mawning to yuh O red rich heifer nuh cry nuh more, nuh cry no more A wha mi going duh Donkey mumma seh Mi bawn fi carry de load A people sin deliverer Pon' Bethlehem' dusty road Him a cum a mi manger But when all is said and done Fore dem nail to the cross Mi we carry de load mi one Mary betta cry for is her loss From cradle mi friend Mi ha fi carry him, mi ha fi carry him Until man sin shall end Mi ha fi shelter him, mi ha fi shelter him NB: This Christmas carol is totally Jamaican flavor, seeing things from the donkey point of view. Donkey mumma seh (donkey mother says); A wha mi going duh (what am I going to do). Christmus: Christmas; Mawning: morning; yuh: you; nuh:don't; bawn:born; fi:to; cum:come; mi:my. Donkey tell the story that sheep and cattle will not die again for sacrifice, but he will still be carrying the load because of sin. The melody is Jamaica folk ... no objection to experiment.
