Yet only the front hall was equipped, the rest left bare and blind, With promises of instruments to purchase far behind. A massive, lavish party marked the opening day’s release; The crowd was bright and happy, the community awash with praise. Yet a whited sepulchre loomed beneath the opening's hollow gaze: A hospital unready, with its empty, skeletal bays. No structures to ensure the clinicians get their pay, No pathway for their training and development day by day. A vainglorious ribbon cut for a shell that holds no grace, While the paradox lay heavy in the empty clinic space. The healing hands stood idle, waiting long to hear the call, While the sick and weary waited by a barren, painted wall. A deficit of doctors, yet the graduate is stayed, For want of funded places where the vows of health are made. The infrastructure fractured by a flickering, fading light, A scarcity of basic tools that drove the bright to flight. Not just for grander wages did the clever minds depart, But for a working canvas that could match their eager art. But the blueprint now is shifting, and the borders yield their hold, No longer building fences to confine the brave and bold. The Agenda has awakened, reaching forward to its prime, To educate, employ, retain three million in our time. The state unlocks the gateway, funding seats where talent grew, To weave the freshly trained directly into what they do. With labs equipped and steady power humming through the wall, The soil becomes a sanctuary, answering the call. No more a tragic drainage, but a grand, circular tide, Where distance does not mean the severing of pride. The diaspora ventures home through digital frontiers, To teach, to heal, to mentor across the passing years. The coder sits in Lagos, tracing lines of global gold, While the taxes and the triumph in the homeland are enrolled. An ethical recruitment blocks the predatory hand, As Africa reclaims the minds that cultivate her land. They pay them well to make the people's lives secure and happy, And clear the state of terror threats, swift, resolute, and snappy. For the community, that was deception, not again These are the manoeuvres that fuel the bitter brain drain.
