Life, a river of repeated returns--- The departure
------------------------------------ As per Indic philosophy, death is no end of journey. Rather, it marks a renewed journey to resume from where one had left off. As long as desires are left, one has to take birth again. The soul takes another body along with subtle impressions, unfulfilled desires--- collectively called samskaras--- with which to weave a new fabric of life. This sonnet on the subject of Life, a river of repeated returns is set in two parts: 1. The Departure, and 2. The Return. ____________________ As mortal shroud is stripped of use and cause, The soul stands bare at Cosmic Ledger’s rise, The mind rewinds the script of all that was, And, late to learn, in vain tries to be wise. ‘Recall, O Mind, the shadows you have wrought,’ The spirit whispers to the anxious mind, ‘Bear forth the phantom seal of deed and thought, Strip off the flesh, and leave the field behind.’ As sandalwood exhales through pregnant airs, While avid fire consumes the crumbling clay, The soul the burden of life’s longings bears— To weave anew the fabric, thread by thread, Awake to walk the maze, dead flesh just shed. __________________________ Spiritual | 02.10.2007, revised Sept 2026| death, desires, life, soul, work, Sonnet
