Somewhere Between Chaos and Prayer
At first, chaos entered as soft as a sigh, a hush in the room, a small shift in the sky. It settled like dust on the back of a chair and waited in silence, as if it belonged there. Then slowly, it gathered beneath my own skin, until I could not tell the outside from within. It whispered old stories and called me by name, then fed every memory into the flame. It rattled the windows and shook every wall, then dared my tired spirit to answer its call. I reached through the noise for a pocket of air and found my first breath in the shape of a prayer. Still, chaos came harder and beat at my doors, then scattered its wreckage across all my floors. It clouded the mirrors, erasing my face, and crowded each corner, consuming its space. But under the ruin, one heartbeat rang true, then another beat steadied and carried me through. I drew in a breath till it steadied my soul, and each scattered piece found its place in the whole. I stopped asking chaos to finally cease before I would welcome one moment of peace. I learned I could ache and still quietly rise, with hope in my chest and the storm in my eyes. Somewhere between quiet prayer and fear, I stood without armor; still tender, still here. Not hardened by sorrow, nor spared from the pain, I learned there was calm in the heart of the rain. I thought my own strength kept the chaos at bay, that courage had carried me day after day. But there in the stillness, the truth became clear; It was God all along who had carried me here.
