Tribute To Carolyn Devonshire
"Always be kind. It costs nothing and it is priceless." By Poet Time seems to take off and fly far away. Many years ago as a new Soup member, Carolyn Devonshire was the first poet to welcomed me. As the months went by, she helped me to become a better writer. Her friendship and kindness, meant the world to me. After all, kindness costs nothing and it is priceless. She lived in sunny Florida, a place she loved. Her "Tiger In The Sea" tells a fish story. "I thought I had hooked the world’s largest grouper After struggling for hours, I was still reeling Refused help from a friend; I was a trooper Somehow I found its resistance appealing Hot sun on the Gulf had me in a stupor And in my hands I started to lose feeling." In the end she was sick and very tired, her life and our time together was ending. I hated to say good-bye, as she took her last few breathes. I love her "Mimes At My Funeral" write, the opening four lines says it all. "When my time is done and I am finally laid to rest I don’t want to be recalled as one who lived life depressed. So as I wrote my will, I chose to leave an instruction That laughing gas be inhaled by all those at the function." As a amazing writer now in heaven, I hope you will have new poems for me to read. One day we will meet again, reading and writing and laughing away.
