Saving Shivers! (Winter of '73)
dang blast that bus! I was caught, near on the other side of town, waiting in the bus shelter, under the one ceiling heat lamp working.... close to sundown, with the temperature dropping quickly, way past zero, and a full-sideways-blowin' snowstorm 'bout tippin' over the shelter.... I was startin' to lose feelin' in my toes, and began fightin' the shivers..... dang blast that bus! for some reason, I looked into the snow swept corner, and there all curled up was an injured squirrel, drawn to the only heat around, tryin' to hang on!... I had gloves on so I didn't worry about pickin' the poor thing up, and I brought it to a nearby house that had a light on..... the kind people who lived there brought me and my hurt squirrel inside, out of the blizzard! .....turns out they were 'animal rescue' people! and offered to nurse my squirrel buddy back to health.... told me the buses had all been cancelled due to the hazardous road conditions, gave me a ride home and told me my little squirrel buddy was lucky my bus never came! (I look back now.... and think 'Guardian Angels' representin' me an' the squirrel, were workin' overtime that night, smilin' at the outcome!)
