Making breakfast in the kitchen, I turn to the instructions and make a pot of tea, letting it steep for just, ninety-nine seconds. I pour its amber comfort into a warmed white teacup. Stir it thrice, clockwise, with my old favorite, silver memorial spoon. I lift the cup's smooth white rim up to my trembling lips. I watch the steam rise from the surface up into my sleep-starved eyes, and see a ghost- trying to remember, my address. The steam drifts towards the window. It hesitates for a moment. Swirls around twice, to hear the magpies chortling, outside beyond the glass. Then, it disappears into the daylight, stirring the morning milieu brew, once or twice, as if it has somewhere else to be. as you are, as you were, as you were.
