Breathless
In times of bereavement there’s nothing stronger than your family to support you in the dark days that follow. Quote by poet. My wife and I were sat at home watching the news on TV  I noticed that she was quiet and was just staring at me “Susan, are you okay"? I asked, I thought she had gone I reached for my phone quickly and dialled nine one one. The call handler said “Stay calm and we’ll be there in-five I prayed for the first time in years, “ Please God keep her alive" We arrived at the hospital, and she was put on life support I imagined my life without her, and it was a horrible thought. A doctor came into the room to tell me "We're keeping her alive But she's had a massive stroke and she’s unlikely to survive" He added " Our records show that she has a DNR in place" It hit me how serious it was I could tell by the look on his face. I remembered back to some years ago what she said to me " My wishes are if I’m ill don’t let them keep me alive artificially  If I get to that stage don’t let me linger because my life is done We've made happy memories over the years and it's been fun". "Yes" I said, " She did sign a DNR, it was about ten years ago It was her greatest wish that if she was so ill, that we let her go I'll phone other family members so they can be here at the end" It seemed so surreal that I might lose my soulmate and best friend.  Our son and daughters soon arrived, and they all sat at her side  A doctor came into turn off the machine that was keeping her alive  She became breathless and then still, I knew it was her time to go Then a dark eerie silence followed and our tears started to flow.
