The Last Leaf - 1476
Contest: 1476 Sponsored by: Brian Strand She tried with all her might, To shoulder the burden of life. She bore witness to farewells each day, And chose life in the face of every storm. They all tried, really they did, Until they found refuge in their fall. This little leaf had no complaint, As one by one, all her friends were laid to rest. When solitude became an unpleasant companion, She would peak into the window at the lying form. Her mind would go to faraway lands, Where she and her were free of promises. They could be the wind and fly away, Finding themselves where illness frayed. Where she could be a wayward leaf tucked in her hair, Or lost amongst her many pages inked with confessions of love. Or she could've passed by her still in her green, To have never met again thereof. She wished it was anywhere, But here - Where life would choose them, And they could choose death. From the perspective of the leaf, inspired by The Last Leaf by O.Henry
