A Three-Legged Workhorse
The times are hard Poor, hungry, lonely... But we all get by Never thinking of others Their feelings Their hopes Their anything As we sit by the fire He walks the dampened streets Thinking of how to get something to eat But throughout a dream Things may change And just like that We lose everything But on this day Work was just the same Just like everyday We awake Get dressed Brush teeth The same routine But he He never knows his last day So when he awakes Alive and well There is always a prayer And a smile like no other. Walking slowly, tired from work Thinking of all the bad things In your seemingly horrible life Under your breath you curse Then decide to take a detour You turn right, Right down the way Where he stays Tears in his eyes He puts on a disguise As you bump him A common mistake As you partake in your apologies He says not a word But turns and sighs Though in his mind He tries not to cry He did it to survive. Walking towards your lawn You see your house gone Then realize You have met your demise. Your own fault You turned a blind eye Now it?s your curse To walk the streets alone And to take the place Of a horse with three legs
