THE GAP BETWEEN PAST AND PRESENT
I used to dwell on The past, A lot, As if it was cast In stone, I had fallen in love at first sight, As had he. That wonderous night, I had found Mr. Right, We danced and danced Till late, To be together was Our fate, We exchanged numbers, The disco was closing down, We were the last to leave, He knew how I felt, I wore my heart on my sleeve, The next day I knew how he felt Two dozen red roses with a card, I love you. We were involved in a whirlwind Romance Per chance, We would get married. No not yet, it was not our time At this point in this rhyme. I got married to someone else, So did he, I gave birth to a wonderful Little boy As did he and his wife I had heard, But would have preferred To not have been told this news, It made me sad It sounded so final That he was a dad, But truthfully, for him I was glad. I will never forget the beard, He sported, His vivid, good- looking face Never felt blurred. I did bump into him one day, We went for coffee, right or wrong, He felt the same as me, This was the present, we had to face, Our folly that we did not get married Many years ago. There we were, Sitting eye to eye, My tummy in knots I cannot tell a lie. Four more long years went by, I was by now divorced 2 years later A friend Who always gave me the news Told me He was also divorced, Oh golly gee, What pray tell me, Happens now. Three years later, from the Love of my life, I get a call, He asked me out Enthusiastically I agreed No doubt. It took him three weeks to propose, We got married 6 months later. I did say at the beginning, That it was our fate, However long it took, although Things did happen in time, a little late. So, two adults hopelessly in love And two teenage boys, Started a new family, I love to hear Happily, together forever And ever. THE END.
