Thy flag Breaks Upon the Bar
In my youthful days of success, None dare bare witness; Lest I become known, And they, the less. Spiteful ire Behind the mask of friend, In mine absence conspire To bring a shaming end. But fate portends See ye now, Thus I know Thou enemies from afar Come close not as foe, But as liegemen of par, Thy flag breaks upon the bar Upheld by falsity And unabashed cruelty Welt and scar. The people know thee, And for that which ye stand, Leave hence, this humble venue, By mine and their command. There is none here nor corruptible soul That would kneel before and follow Such as Thee and Thine. Leave us to victory's feast And wine. And in those days Honor held sway; What happened, if I may That leaves us carry on In such a disdainful way? It taints the very air Of honor I breathe, And I fail to believe Even the things Mine own eyes doth see. Ere flying pigs flapping angels' wings Would be of less paltry things To see as mind takes liberty To the brink of ill reason. Thy court is riddled with treason And treason's heirs; From whence hath thou lost hands Upon thy affairs, To let the state fall to such a state To let the kingdom deteriorate? So, in the fleeting breadth of my slumber I awaken to find old enemies Wallowing in the beds of allies. The pale sallow as democracy dies, But ere holds for the heroes' saving blade Fall curs to all hells and be lowly laid. And swelled in fires of dignity and truth Have at thee, and forsooth. And so the battle raged And yet rages; Players prance and fawn upon the stages As we look on, too shy to play our part, Feeling the pangs in our heart To bring the play to an end. To trade the enriching enemy For goodly and true friend. To transcend reason's stalemate And by heart and by might, Make things right again; We can do it. We just need begin.
