Summer Runaway
I used the song parts in this poem: I never dreamed you'd leave in summer. I thought you would go, then come back home. I thought the cold would leave by summer, but my quiet nights will be spent alone. ~ I Never Dreamed You’d Leave in Summer, *Written by Stevie Wonder and Syreeta Wright* As I walk along, I wonder what went wrong with our love ~ Runaway *Written by Del Shannon and Max Crook* 'Cause I've done everything I know to try and change your mind, and I think I'm gonna miss you for a long, long time. ~Long, Long Time *Written by Gary Wright, Sung by Linda Ronstadt* My poem, Summer Runaway, follows: I never dreamed you'd leave in summer. I thought you would go, then come back home. I thought the cold would leave by summer, but my quiet nights will be spent alone. I’ve never felt so lost and confused. I’m no longer warmed by the summer breeze. This time, my heart is broken, not just bruised. We used to stroll ‘neith these willow trees. As I walk along, I wonder what went wrong with our love, a love that was so strong. Could be, I can’t see that somehow we’re not meant to be, or someone, and you must be free. So, go along, your own way now that you’ve left my side. I hope you find happiness. There’s nothing I haven’t tried, 'cause I've done everything I know to try and change your mind, and I think I'm gonna miss you for a long, long time.
