Christmas Nostalgia
Snow Fantasy or Christmas Nostalgia #2 12-14-25 Constance La France "A gift of song never grows old or out of style." Quote by poet. In high school I sang in a trio. We performed in western Washington. We would sing for our families and friends on Christmas afternoon dressed in matching red velvet dresses, with another friend at the piano dressed in green, carols we practiced for six months. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Christmas Nostalgia in Song Whenever I hear the Carol of the Bells Or Sleigh Ride as I navigate crowded aisles I stop to savor these peppermint days When Christmas tumbles around me In flowing lyrics like yuletide ribbons Adorning recollections of four young women Three attired in matching red velvet dresses, One dressed in holiday green at a piano, Standing in front of a crackling fire On a rainy Christmas afternoon To unwrap gifts of song in three part harmony, Honed on hot summer afternoons, For our families and close friends In sweet notes of Currier and Ives' parties Silent manger scenes for a Savior And bells ringing in Noel melodies These days now gone like scraps of wrapping paper But this song lives on like tasting cider On a windswept rainy afternoon In flashbacks adorned with gold and frankincense Our songs, ever young, wrapped like Christmas gifts Always waiting to be re-opened When carols sing in December.
